Splashes of colour

Untitled
Saw some colourful simple things today, like this hot dog wrapping paper - I felt like I was a kid in the 80's again.

Untitled
Beautiful colourful origami.

Passed by Herr Nilsson and bought a small bag of pick and mix candy.

Then it was time to walk back home to the studio again and work.

I think I'm going to spend the rest of the evening in my studio.

  1. Hello!

It's so kind of you to ask, I would have been too shy as I don't want to seem pushy!

My name is Joanne, I'm British-German and live in Mainz. I know Berlin well and would love to live there and here and in Freiburg all at the same time. I've often traveled to your home country.

My passion are details, nature, structures, knitting (I'm a part time designer here: finelightness.com), drawing with fine liner, art, food and my daughter and man. Oh and weather, sustainability, life!

I looooove fruit and vegetables and ice cream and basically anything except sea food...

Looking forward to every single day and to being more creative. I spend too much time admiring others!!

I've been reading your blog for over ten years and you are an incredible source of inspiration. I wear a pair of wrist worms whenever it's cold enough. I am very grateful to you.

    Can you recommend any podcasts?

    Best wishes!
    Joanne

  7. Hi Sandra
I have been reading your blog for ages but never comment - shame on me!
I am from Cologne but lived in Berlin (Friedrichshain) for five years and moved to Bristol in the UK twelve years ago.
I am passionate about enjoying the little things in life, about reading, films, animals and raising my daughter to be a strong, independent girl. She is only three, but she certainly knows what she wants!
I am a vegan, so Berlin is food heaven. Every time I go and visit my sister there, I pretty much eat my way around town. I will try anything as long as it's vegan and favourites include a simple but delicious falafel with peanut sauce. Nil on Grünbergerstraße has always been a favourite.
I am looking forward to doing more travelling as my daughter grows older, I want to explore Scandinavia next, I have only been to Malmö and Copenhagen so far.

sending you lots of love, keep blogging!
    xx

I can't remember how I found your blog but ever since I've been reading it and enjoying your fantastic pictures. I want to thank you for this amazing blog!

My passion is to create something, mostly with my hands using yarn and knitting needles. Nature and my cat are important to me.

I like to eat new potatoes and fish with some fresh vegetables.

  11. Hello Sandra!
My name is Bea and I live in Italy. I've been silently but constantly following your blog since 2008... because I'm a bit to shy to comment :)
My passions are illustration, graphic design, food and knitting. When I'm not too busy in front of a computer (I'm a graphic designer and a soon-to-be master graduate in Graphic Design for Publishing) I also love taking long walks and listening to audiobooks in order to relax myself and detox from the screen.
I love to try new foods and tastes, but my staples are good coffee, wine and bread. There are few things I really don't like!
I'm looking forward to find what and where my path will be this autumn; in the meanwhile I will try to take the best from this summer drawing, exploring, studying new things and relaxing.

I don't think i have a favorite food/meal (it's hard to choose), but i love italian and greek food, cheese, and prefer savory over sweet.
Right now I am looking forward to painting my living room the most beautiful green, and to my four weeks of summer holiday that starts in two days!

  13. Hey Sandra,
I've been reading your blog for years. Really love seeing your particular city filtered through your eyes. The blogs I follow are mainly chosen because of their mood, the feeling I get reading it, the same affecing my choice of magazines – mood is more important than theme. In the case of your blog, I really like your theme too ;) We share the love for urban environment, walking, working from home and COFFEE.

    1. I'm Ida. Originally from Sweden but now I live in Paris.
    2. I guess writing and reading with coffee is in the core of my life. Wouldn't mind doing that forever.
    3. Pasta with tomatos. Since I was a kid. Also lemon risotto. And figs in savory ways.
    4. I'm yet to start yearning for autumn, but usually romanticising of cardigans and heavy red wine is a big part of my summer.

Question for you, from one freelancer to another: what do you do when you are in a low-inspiration/low-energy phase in your freelance life? When everything feels hard and overwhelming? Any strategies that usually work for you? (Assuming you get bad periods once in a while.)

Thanks for posting and showing us a glimpse of your Berlin and life!

  14. Hi Sandra, I love that your posts have become more frequent and more... bidirectional? :)

My name is Tudor and I live in Luxembourg, I don't think I have "one" passion unless consuming a lot of pop culture could be a passion (as opposed to being just escapism...). My favorite food must be Greek Yogurt mixed with Walnuts (bought separately)- it's anyways what I end up eating when I have nothing else around :). I like thinking of my next visit to Berlin... or Amsterdam... or Como - some of my favorite destinations.

    4. I'm looking forward to this weekend when my new TV is supposed to arrive. I never bought one for myself, so that's special. Movies and TV shows all weekend! :D

And I have a question for you, too (:
I told you a few times before that I really love your photos and that you have this unique "Sandra" style. I would love to know how you pass certain of your motifs. Like ... do you stop and take several pictures to choose the best or do you just take one and move on? A strange question ... but I'm honestly curious! (:
    Have a great day <3

I've been following you for ages. I like the photos and text. Your blog is so simple, yet so inspiring. You have a great eye for details. Looking at your photos I get the feeling of walking the streets of Berlin or whatever town you are writing about at that moment.
    2. I don't have any passion. However, I like traveling, reading, visiting museums, nice food (although I don't like eating much at home) and walking. I'm thinking about pretending to be a tourist in my town for 10 days and visiting all those places I would not normally do. We have some really nice restaurants, bars and wineries. There's a lake some 10 km from the city center. There is also a bunch of nice old buildings in Neoclassical, Jugendstil and Art Deco style.
    3. I like pasta, pizza, BBQ... I don't like rice. I could be starving to death but I would not eat rice.
    4. I'm looking forward to having some time just for me (all those beauty treatments a girl needs from time to time).

  35. Hi Sandra!
I, too, have been reading your blog since your sweden days. And ... I too, don't ever comment. =) But I love your blog. I can really connect with the way you view the world. I'm a graphic designer and illustrator, a nature lover, no kids, I have wonderful partner in crime and i'm rather introspective and enjoy my quiet time but crave genuine human connections and friendships. I feel like when I read your blog, I can almost picture myself in your shoes and truly imagine it. Berlin is on my short list of places I need to visit now, all because your blog, beautiful photography, and creative expression. So thank you for this blog and being a part of my life for over 10 years.

    Now on to your questions.
    1) Colorado, USA
    2) Passion? I move from passion to passion. Past passions have been: living off grid, zero waste, crochet, painting, fashion, and now I'm on to video and animation. That too shall pass... and i'll move onto something else. =)
    3) Food? I LOVE all food. So i'll list what i don't like, Liver and Beets! YUCK. But, I grew up in Hawaii, so I have a soft spot for Manapua, mochi, and spam musubis. YUM!
    4) At the moment, I'm excited for a new campaign to launch. Which is not very exciting, I realize. I've had a couple great trips this year. But, it's time to get some new amazing stuff planed!!! Thank you for the reminder.

Now... a few questions for you. Where do you see yourself in 5 and 10 years from now? Secondly, do you spend the majority of your work time on personal projects or client projects for your income?

Thank you for your blog and inspiration.

My passion? I am passionate about being kind even if I don't succeed. I love my bicycle and last year toured from the Cascade mountains in Washington State to the Sierra Nevadas in California. I love to make little cardboard houses.
Food - no contest. It's pasta, pasta, pasta. And that included southern macaroni and cheese.
I am looking forward to taking time off again and riding my bike to some place different. On my bike I get to know the land in a different way from being in a car.

    Thank you for asking. Lucy

  45. Hi Sandra,
I am Doina, I live in Hamburg now, after Bucharest and Montreal. I think it was in Montreal when a friend of mine recommended your blog (she is into knitting and said you make beautiful photos). Now I read your posts every few weeks. I love the moments of life you choose to share with us.
A few days ago I saw someone in Hamburg looking like your husband and, at the beginning, I didn't know where to "place" him and I squeezed my brains for a few hours until I realised where I knew him from. I thought afterwards how weird it would be to tell him out of the bloom: You're Sandra's husband! Now I told you :)!
Passions: Reading, writing (I am a journalist ) and I have tried to fix and paint furniture a few years ago, I'm not sure I am determined enough to pursue this to more than just a hobby.
Eating: pretty much everything - now I have a Zucchini and garlic phase. Cheese. And Wine - red and dry.
Looking forward to: Renting a boat and rowing on the canals with my husband on Friday
