I miss Berlin. There is a reason I studied German like a freak in my teenage years, I always wanted to live there.
So, some great, greater, the greatest news:
We're finally moving away from Sweden after talking about it for years.
The reason why we were in Berlin earlier this week was because Johan went to some job interviews. They were all positive but he hasn't got a job yet (but a very nice recruiter/agent!). If you know someone in Berlin who needs help at their design company, in a café, in a bar, in a shop or in almost any kind of place - Johan is available from December 1.
We also search for an apartment, which isn't hard, but finding an apartment in Gothenburg is super hard, so if you have a wonderful place (altbau, 2-3 rooms, 70+ sqm, bathtub, balcony, top floor, wooden floors, warmmiete preferably not over €700, KEIN WG) in Berlin (Prenzlberg, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Neukölln or something similar) and want to move to Gothenburg, we could do a swap - This is what we have to offer, 34 sqm (hall, toilet + shower, kitchen (einbau), livingroom + laundry room and one big and one small storing room in the basement) in Majorna - the bohemian arty very nice neighbourhood in Gothenburg. The rent (warmmiete) is €350 and all the rooms except the toilet + shower have white wooden floors.
I'll be back about this again :)
Update: We will not sublet our Gothenburg apartment and it's unfortunately not possible for us to decide who can rent it after us, our landlord has a long list of people wanting it already.
Most important for us is for Johan to find a job. The apartment hunt is going quite well, but IF someone needs an apartment in Gothenburg (and has an apartment in Berlin for us) we can offer this one :)
The pictures of me are taken by Johan

ReplyDeleteCongratulations Sandra!! I'm so happy that you are following your heart finally.
ReplyDeleteI have thought about moving to Berlin for a long time as well, it is such a fantastic city. I have visited many times and have always loved it.
I really recommend a pizza place called DUE FORNI in prenzlauer berg. The pizzas there are to die for, you have to try it.
My biggest dream is to move to New York - a dream which may come true some time next year I hope
xoxo
Luisa > thank you so much, we should have some food together when i'm settled! :)
ReplyDeleteKerry Hawkins > some day! hope it'll be soon for you!

ReplyDeleteoh wow! congratulations! I did the same thing more than a year ago and haven't regretted moving to Berlin a single bit!
ReplyDeleteYay!!! Superduper! Now you have to use words like "knorke", "astrein" and "Stulle" all the time :D.
ReplyDelete... been wondering what the good news were earlier this week, now I know!
... crossing the fingers for Johan to find a job. Don't know if he thought about being selbstständig? I'm planning to do it, so I could be a helpful Ansprechpartner (yes, slowly changing into your new language, haha :D).
Maybe the chance to have dinner together! Would love to meet you two in person sometime soon.
How exciting!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Berlin is such an amazing city. I can't wait to see it through your eyes daily.
ReplyDeletecongratulations and I hope things go smoothly You have never looked lovelier-beret, hair, scarf, et al.. you are ready for the next big thing
ReplyDeleteHow exciting news!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
very very welcome to Berlin! I am now living here since two year, never regret the decision to come here... I wish you good luck for finding an apartment, but i think it wouldn't be so difficult. Unfortunately i don`t know someone who will leave his apartment.
ReplyDeleteBig compliment for your photos! Many of them (motives) looking so familar to me ;-)
OMG I wish I lived in Berlin, because I would love to swap my flat with yours in Gothenburg!! I live in France in Strasbourg (not far from the German border, though;))
ReplyDeletejihaa! grattis:)
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing news!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf all goes as planned, I will be moving to the same place in about a year. And where did you find good sushi in Berlin?!
oh, fantastic news!
ReplyDeletecongratulations!
wie immer: fantastische Fotos uuuund... Willkommen demnächst in Deutschland!
ReplyDeletehi wow berlin, thats great!!!
ReplyDeletebut why you are not looking for a flat in Wedding? you could have the most amazing apartment there, if you can spent 700,-. and besides that, its a very nice and artsy environment there. a lot of creative people live there and open little shops and stuff. on the other side i can not recommend Neukölln. getting far too crowed with people from abroad who are willing to pay everything and so ruining the prices for everyone. so check out WEDDING.
That's fantastic Sandra! I'm sure Johan will find a job soon. I have never been to Berlin (hope to get there someday) and I can't wait to see it through your eyes the way I have loved seeing Gothenburg. I also just have to say that the food you photograph always looks SOOO good. I could jump through the screen and eat that sushi, not to mention the cupcake from the previous post.
ReplyDeleteExcited to hear more as your adventure unfolds!
to me "something similiar" doesn't exclude WEDDING :) i'm happy to know of any possibilities, mostly work-wise for johan though, because finding an apartment is so much easier than finding a job. <3 happy weekend all!
grattis sandra och johan! you know, i read the beginning of this post thinking, "she loves it so much, i know she'll move there someday." and then a few minutes later i returned to read the rest of your news, and i was so happy and surprised and ... happy!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news! I can tell by your photos how much you love Berlin, and are creatively inspired there. (A Brooklynite friend of mine recently went to Berlin for a trip and said "How can anyone visit this city and not start scheming a way to live here?!?") Congratulations to you and Johan for making it happen!
ReplyDelete:) you get my biggest smile : )
ReplyDeleteThats the way. Congratulations!!!!
ReplyDeletecongratulations sandra. i'm so excited for you! good luck!
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Berlin's waiting for you!
ReplyDelete(And I'm thinking of moving to Gothenburg right now, because your apartment is soooo lovely - unfornately, the swedish winter is a little bit too cold for me :( )
All the best,
Tatiana.
:)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, S+J.
på riktigt!! låter ju underbart, vilken lycka för er;) hoppas allt ordanr sig med boendet snart.
ReplyDeletevi ska fira nyår i berlin, stannar där i några dagar. ska bli så kul, jag som aldrig varit där förut!

ReplyDeletesuch a great new adventure ahead for you both!
congratulations and wish you very happy days in berlin!
it's so funny i was there too early this week, maybe we crossed eachother!
Oh finally! I had a feeling this piece of news fill come sooner or later :) Congratulations and good luck!
ReplyDeletehi sandra, very exciting news! i will certainly keep my eyes and ears open for jobs. and - just randomly throwing this idea into the round - have you thought about contacting the offices of jeppe hein or olafur eliasson? they both run big studios with quite a number of employees from all kinds of professional backgrounds and countries. you could easily check out their websites.
ReplyDeletegood luck and happy weekend!
How very exciting for you and Johan!!! Congratulations! I'm looking forward to seeing all the photos you'll take of Berlin.
ReplyDeletewow Sandra that's amazing! I'm moving to Berlin later in the year. Let's be BFFs! haha

I want your glasses!
The greatest! I am so happy for you two:)
ReplyDeleteGrattis Good Luck Onnea und Vielen Glück!
Berlin is a beautiful place, i spent there one month last summer, and i have there many friends, all artists too. It´s a good city for an artist to live, so vivid, multicultural, exciting, always something going on, and never the less- quite cheap.
Hurrey for you!
Yay!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so, so excited for you guys!
Wish you to meet soon your swap chance!!!
Wow! That is big news! Berlin is happy to welcome you soon :-) I will keep my eyes and ears open for appartments and jobs over here. xx

Hey Sandra!
ReplyDeleteGreat, great news!
I usualy don't comment here (too shy, i guess), but i check your blog often and this was something really good to read, cause your love for berlin is easy to see in your pictures!
I'm living in Berlin since one year now, and so far i'm happy with the decision of moving to the big city!
Unfortunatly i can not really give you any tips for jobs, but if you're looking for a flat, i suggest checking out a couple of sites:
http://berlin.de.craigslist.de/
http://www.wg-gesucht.de/
http://www.immobilienscout24.de/de/finden/wohnen/index.jsp
We found our place in craigslist (look also in atelier/studios for artists).
It's an old fabriketage in Neukölln. Not the most beautiful district to live in Berlin, but i like it anyway. It's also a good think that it's a bit far out from the non-stop party districts like Kreuzberg...
The main reason why we toke it (this was the first flat we saw in Berlin!), is easy to tell. Huge open space with 130qm, for 700euros all included! It needed some work and renovation, but that was the fun part and exactly what we were looking for.
So my suggestion is to look out for signs on the street and buildings and maybe go to a few agencies. Another good think is to get the word out and hope that a friend of a friend is looking for someone to move the his/her amazing flat!
Good luck for you both and all the best in this new adventure!
Inês
Sandra! I knew I'd seen this somewhere, maybe it can help while you find something permanent: http://www.urban-apartments.com/berlin/ :)
can't believe the prices in Gothenburg or Berlin. typical Paris apartment 35m2 is rented at about 900-1000 euros. People, you do not really know what paradise you really live in...still cannot believe.....
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for this day since I first discovered your blog. I will think over your questions, & anything else I can do to help, just say! Is Johan still looking for work?
ReplyDeleteSylee > he is! :) thank you!
ReplyDeleteI've emailed a few designer friends, let's see what they say!
ReplyDeleteSylee > thank you so much, that is so kind of you!
ReplyDelete
